Physicians
Ali Afrookteh, MD, FACP
Dr. Afrookteh is a board-certified internist who graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland medical school in 1983, followed by internship, residency and chief residency at the University of Virginia Hospital. Also board certified in sports medicine, Ali has been practicing in Frederick for more than 25 years. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, which represents a recognition by colleagues of excellence in professionalism, integrity and scholarship. He has also served at Frederick Memorial Hospital in numerous capacities, including Chief of Staff. Dr. Afrookeh has received numerous professional awards, including induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, the Faculty Gold Medal, Leonard Hummel Prize in Internal Medicine, the Jacob Finesinger Award in Psychiatry at the University of Maryland medical school, Frederick Magazines's Frederick's top internist award in 2008 and the Samuel Asper award as Maryland's top internist in 2011. |

Brendan Henderson, MD
Dr. Henderson graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine where he achieved an academic scholarship and honors in internal medicine and psychiatry. He did his internal medicine residency at Yale where he worked closely with faculty at the VA Medical Center's weight loss program MOVE. He was honored to present his work at Yale Grand Rounds. He completed his internal medicine residency and board certification in 2009.
Following residency, he continued his mentoring activities at the VA by volunteering as the Director of Education for Primary care and co-authoring a grant for rural health education. As an assistant professor of medicine at the West Virginia University School of Medicine, he took a great interest in guiding future physicians and helping them develop both the medical and personal skills needed to care for others. Additionally, as the Physician Champion of the MOVE program, he helped many patients achieve weight loss and diabetes remission.
Dr. Henderson applies his experiences as a physician, mentor, athlete, and patient toward delivering a truly unique, comprehensive, and personalized wellness experience for patients. He focuses on exercise, diet, and on optimizing health habits to help his patients attain and maintain their physical, emotional, and cognitive potentials.
Besides his academic endeavors, Dr. Henderson competed as a high school and collegiate athlete in the state of Maryland. After successfully rehabbing an ACL tear, he continues to enjoy running and cycling.
He and his wife, Emily, have deep roots and extended family in the Frederick community. They enjoy hiking the trails of Frederick County as well as playing sports and music with their children.
